The 10 Domains Powering the Internet

So Cloudflare released their ranking of the most visited domains globally, and honestly, some of the results are pretty interesting. Here's what made the top 10:

1. google.com — Google Search and all their other stuff
2. amazonaws.com — Amazon Web Services
3. cloudflare.com — Website security and network infrastructure
4. googleapis.com — The APIs that power apps and websites
5. apple.com — Apple products, customer support, online store
6. gstatic.com — Static files that Google services rely on
7. fbcdn.net — Facebook's content delivery network for images and videos
8. microsoft.com — Microsoft's main hub for products and services
9. facebook.com — Facebook itself
10. googlevideo.com — Video hosting and delivery (basically YouTube)

What's interesting here is that the list mixes websites you actually visit with ones that work invisibly in the background. Google shows up four times, which might seem weird at first until you realize each domain does something completely different.

The backstage players

You know apple.com, microsoft.com, and facebook.com — those are places people actually go. But amazonaws.com and cloudflare.com? Most people have never even heard of them, yet they're basically everywhere behind the scenes. They're the infrastructure keeping the internet running. Same thing with fbcdn.net — it's Facebook's delivery system for all their photos and videos, so you're interacting with it constantly without even knowing it.

Here's the thing though: Cloudflare's ranking is based on DNS queries they observe, so it's not just showing which websites get the most visitors. It's basically showing what's really happening behind the scenes on the internet. Some domains rank high because people visit them directly. Others rank high because they're constantly working in the background, handling requests for thousands of websites at once.
